Moving on to September

I finished piecing the illusion block quilt.  I really like how it turned out.  Thank you Craftsy for the batik layer cake which made this quilt possible.

I am almost done with my September assignment for the Block of the Month.  I finished the last two blocks and added black borders to all the blocks.  They are each 13" now.

I just need to tear off all the paper from the paper pieced blocks and finish adding the flowers to three baskets.

I have a quick little project to experiment with the next few days.  I've had this Robert Kaufman fabric for quite awhile and I think it might just be perfect for the technique I want to try.  Here is a sneak peak.

Progress!

Slow and steady, wins the race or at least it gets the quilt finished.  I am working slowly on this quilt but I really don't want to rush.  I get sloppy when I rush, I'll be the first to admit it, my seams get a little wonky.  I limited myself to four a day.  I am a half square over halfway now!  36 out of 71 finished.

With my limit it gives me time to play with other quilts as well.

I am almost finished piecing all the hexagons for my One Block Wonder quilt.

I even had a chance to make one cube.

I have more incentive to finish the wedding ring now so I can get the one block wonder up on my design wall and play with the arrangement and make some more cubes.

I didn't forget my Craftsy Block of the Month with Jinny Beyer.  I think I'm improving.

Finishes

I thought you might like to see my finished autumn bowl.  I wish I'd had a video camera rolling when I popped the balloon.  I don't know which would have been better, the look on my face or the shape of the bowl.  As the balloon deflated, so did the bowl, just crumpled in on top of itself.  Before I could recover from my surprise it popped back out again.  It was stuck to the balloon at first but quickly came free all on it's own.  I think it turned out very nicely for something that looked like a wad of chewed gum earlier today.

I realized I never showed a completed photo of my big quilt from JoAnn Fabrics block of the month.  I grabbed my husband and son for photography help this morning, since they were both home.

My tiny quilt is almost finished, a little more free motion quilting around the flowers, a label, a hanging sleeve and some binding to go.  My sewing machine was getting hot though so I thought I should give it a break.  Oh, wait maybe I was getting hot, no I think we both were.

Almost done!

Thought I'd share a couple photos of my Big, Huge, Enormous quilt.  At least for me it is that big!  This was a JoAnn Fabrics Block of the Month quilt from a number of years ago.  I finished the quilt top awhile ago but never quilted it.

Well the quilting is done, still need to do the binding etc, but almost there.  Now I can move on to quilting my cactus and my tree quilt for the Minnesota Quilt show in June.  Whew!  I think I still have plenty of time.

Don't look too close or criticize too loud.  I know I still have a lot to learn but I am happy with the end result on this one.

Craftsy Block of the Month(s)

I'm playing catch up this weekend.  I hadn't done any of the Craftsy Block of the Month patterns since May.  So, far I have finished June, July and August.  I guess I am caught up now because I have the whole month to finish September's blocks.  It went pretty well, a couple of goofy glitches but I think I caught my mistakes and repaired them.

July blocks:

(This is one of the blocks that I goofed.  We could either buy a special ruler to make the pieces or make our own pattern.  I chose to make my pattern because I wasn't sure if I would ever make this block again, so I didn't want to invest in the ruler.  My pattern must have been a tiny bit too big at the center points.  When I sewed the pieces together the outside edge layed nice and flat and the inner part was like a roller coaster.  I just took each seam in a tiny, tiny bit and it all layed flat for me.  Whew!)

August blocks:
Ohio Star Block Pattern
(I made a goofy mistake on this one, I think I was sewing too late last night.  I didn't notice until I took a photo and looked at it on my computer.  It was easy to fix.  It reminded me of the Sesame Street song, "One of these things is not like the other..."  Can you see the mistake.)

Craftsy Classes

I finished my March blocks for the biggest Block of the Month Club ever.  I am using a fat quarter pack I bought from Craftsy.com.  It is a Kaffe Fassett assortment in neutral colors.  I bought a second pack last month from Fabric.com, but now I'm wondering if I might need a third.  I'm still using the first pack but this is only month 3.

Here are this months blocks

When I joined the Block of the Month Class I received a discount for a second class.  I signed up for Painted Pictorial Quilts taught by Annette Kennedy.  I started the class this past week.  There are two projects in the class and so far I have done one. The pattern was drawn by Annette Kennedy.

Not too bad for a first try.  It looks better up close.

A fun class, not the best quality video but I learned a lot so far and I'm excited to try my own patterns.
