A week in review

Last week was very busy but I feel like I didn't accomplish much.  Halloween, birthday, election, getting ready for winter, lot's to do but little to show for it.

I did make a head piece for my dog's costume.  The ear holes were too small and made him uncomfortable.
You can see how small they were in this photo.
So I made them a little bigger.
He wore it most of the night and entertained all of our trick or treaters.
My plan was to buy two pumpkins to carve but they were such a deal!
This is what Minnesota looked like when my son was born.  Glad we had nice weather this year.  Snow is coming soon, maybe today!

I did finish binding, adding a hanging sleeve and a label to my flag.  I found my saved burgundy fabric for the binding on my OBW and before I added the new fabric, so that is almost finished too.

This is my next piecing project.  But, today my machine is going in to be serviced.  The website says their wait time is two to three weeks.  Good thing I have my longarm too or I might go in to sewing withdrawal.

The most important thing I did this last week is vote.  Such an honor and a privilege to live in a country where I can express my opinion at the polls.

Halloween fun!

We enjoy Halloween at our house. I think we secretly crave being actors. Dressing up as something other than who you are everyday, is always fun. My son decided to be the Lucky Charms Leprechaun this year. He purchased a hat and it came with the little tufts of fur(facial hair?). I dyed a jacket for him. I used one of the jackets I brought back from my mom's. It was stained and I couldn't get the stain out. I've only dyed natural fabrics before so I wasn't sure if it would turn out. Here is a photo of before, during and after.

My daughter was fire. She went with a group of friends who were each a different element, i.e. water, wind etc. She purchased a devil costume. It was a little short so I added some to the length and than made some cutouts within the body of the cotume. Here she is before hair and make-up. Also a couple of close-ups.

We put out a few decorations yesterday afternoon. The guy sitting in the chair upset our dog. He barked at it the first couple of times he saw it and than tried to jump up in it's lap. A couple of kids who came to trick or treat wondered if it was real. Didn't need to put out any fake spider webs as we just left the ones we really have! Realistic touch.

I started the Anilee Treasure Hunt today. I will end up with a quilt designed by Stephanie Forsyth. Can't wait to see it!
Have a creative day.

First costume

I mentioned before that I have made quite a few costumes over the years. I'm hoping to get my photos organized this year. One of the scrapbooks I want to make is a Halloween book for each of my kids. I know not everyone likes this day but we all love dressing up as someone we aren't even if it is just for a day. So as I sort through my photos I will occasionally add a photo of a costume I made over the years. This is one of the first costumes I made. Not sure if it is actually the first. It was quite a few years ago. She loved watching Rainbow Brite and the Care Bears on tv. So, when she could actually be Rainbow Brite she was pretty excited. Here she is with her two friends, Brian and Joel. (Master's of the Universe and a bug.) They were all in the Aquafest Parade in Rice Lake, WI where we lived at the time. So, of course she wore this for Halloween that year.
